Welcome..

Welcome to ER community in Niagara. We are happy that you have joined us. We pride ourselves on a supportive ER community where we support each other and our teams to better patient outcomes. We value a great work-life balance for our physicians. We are dedicated to our departments, our communities, and the values of Niagara Health for a Healthier Niagara through Extraordinary Care, Teams, and Innovation for an Extraordinary Future.

By now, you should have done your hospital orientation which would have covered a lot of issues like By-Laws, privileges, Professional Staff Expectations, Privacy, Dictation, Medical Records, Ordersets and electronic orders, IRS (for incidence reporting), med-rec (or BPMH) and many other things. Please make sure that you have your electronic credentials to start working. We highly recommend that you activate your secure remote access and make sure you activate Vocera and MobileIron on your mobile phone for secure communication. The latter also automatically gives you WiFi access on your phone when you are int eh hospital. Please obtain your SMART-AMI app username and password, and download the App. This is the best way to activate HIU in Hamilton from STEMI transfers from the ED. You can download a PDF version of the orientation e-book HERE (there might be a newer version available from Medical Affairs Office).

Now, for the ED Specific orientation. We will try to make it simple.

The Emergency Program is structured in a North-South orientation. Northern Niagara has been restructured over the past years around the flagship SCS. South Niagara is undergoing a similar process with a proposed opening of the new South Niagara Site (SNS) likely found 2027/28. This is exciting as you will find the environment there quite exciting and gearing towards this massive change.

Our Orientation will structure the same way, into:

• General ED orientation

• North Niagara (SCS) Orientation

• South Niagara Orientation

Always know that myself and your site chief are always a phone call, an email or a Vocera message away. We are here to support you and make sure you succeed.

Sincerely,

Dr Rafi Setrak, MBChB, CCFP(EM), FCFP

Regional Chief of Emergency Medicine
